The Congregation Council consists of the pastor and seven elected voting members of the congregation. The council’s primary purpose is to oversee the life and activities of the congregation, and in particular its worship life so that the Word of God and the faith and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are preserved.
The Congregation Council…
- seeks to involve all members of the congregation in worship, learning, witness, service, and support.
- is obligated to lead the congregation in stating its mission, to do long-range planning, to set goals and evaluate its activities in light of its mission and objectives.
- emphasizes partnership with the synod and church-wide units of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as well as cooperation with other congregations, both Lutheran and non-Lutheran.
- is responsible for the financial and property matters of the congregation, and provides for the overall undertakings of the congregation.
- annually submits a detailed report of church affairs, and prepares a budget for adoption by the congregation.
- ensures that the provisions of the St. Peter Church Constitution (and) its bylaws are carried out.
